Where Can 25mm² Cable Be Used?
🔋 12V LiFePO4 Batteries
25mm² cable is suitable for many 12V LiFePO4 battery applications, particularly battery systems using approximately 100A-class BMS/load levels, subject to cable length and installation conditions.
For example:
12.8V 100Ah LiFePO4 Battery
12.8V 200Ah LiFePO4 Battery
For very high-current 12V systems or long cable runs, a larger cable may be preferable.
⚡ 24V LiFePO4 Batteries
25mm² copper cable can be useful for 24V battery systems, where the required current and cable length are within the cable's permissible operating limits.
Examples:
24V 100Ah LiFePO4
24V 200Ah LiFePO4
24V 314Ah LiFePO4
The actual cable size should be selected based on the inverter/load current and cable length, rather than battery Ah capacity alone.
🔋 48V / 51.2V LiFePO4 Batteries
Because higher-voltage systems require less current for the same power, 25mm² cable can be useful in many 48V/51.2V battery applications.
Examples:
51.2V 100Ah
51.2V 200Ah
51.2V 314Ah
For high-power inverters, cable sizing should be calculated according to the maximum DC current and cable run.
Example: 5kW Inverter
For a 51.2V battery system:
5000W ÷ 51.2V ≈ 98A
Therefore, a 25mm² copper cable can be a practical choice for some 5kW-class 51.2V systems when the cable length, installation and protection are appropriately designed.
For larger inverters, the required current increases and a larger cable may be required.
Example: 8kW Inverter
For a 51.2V system:
8000W ÷ 51.2V ≈ 156A
At this current level, cable selection becomes particularly dependent on length, insulation rating, ambient temperature and installation method. A larger conductor or parallel cables may be appropriate rather than automatically using a single 25mm² cable.
Why Pure Copper?
Pure copper provides excellent electrical conductivity compared with many alternative conductor materials.
Benefits include:
Low electrical resistance
Efficient power transfer
Reduced voltage drop
Better suitability for high-current DC applications
Good flexibility when constructed with fine strands
Reliable battery-terminal connection
Flexible Multi-Strand Construction
The cable uses a flexible multi-strand construction rather than a rigid solid conductor.
This makes it easier to:
Bend around battery terminals
Route inside battery cabinets
Connect BMS terminals
Connect inverter terminals
Install inside compact battery boxes
Manage positive and negative DC wiring
This is particularly useful when building custom LiFePO4 battery packs.
Suitable LiFePO4 Battery Applications
25mm² pure copper cable can be used in battery systems such as:
12V 100Ah LiFePO4
12V 200Ah LiFePO4
24V 100Ah LiFePO4
24V 200Ah LiFePO4
24V 314Ah LiFePO4
48V / 51.2V 100Ah LiFePO4
48V / 51.2V 200Ah LiFePO4
48V / 51.2V 314Ah LiFePO4
However, the Ah rating does not determine cable size by itself. The correct cable depends primarily on the maximum current, cable length and allowable voltage drop.
Ideal Applications
☀️ Solar Battery Systems
For connecting LiFePO4 batteries to compatible solar inverters and DC equipment.
⚡ Inverter Systems
Suitable for battery-to-inverter connections when the required current is within the cable's rated capability.
🔋 Battery Packs
Useful for connecting battery terminals, BMS and high-current DC components.
🏠 Home Backup
Suitable for residential LiFePO4 backup systems.
🏢 Commercial Energy Storage
Can be used in appropriately designed battery cabinets and energy-storage systems.
🚗 EV Applications
Can be used for suitable low-voltage/high-current EV battery wiring, provided the cable's current and thermal requirements are met.
Installation Recommendations
For safe and reliable installation:
Use appropriately rated lugs/terminals.
Use a properly sized DC fuse or breaker.
Keep cable runs as short as practical.
Avoid sharp bends that can damage insulation.
Ensure terminals are properly crimped.
Make sure terminal connections are tight.
Avoid exceeding the cable's allowable temperature.
Select cable size according to actual current and voltage-drop requirements.
Important
25mm² cable should not be selected solely because a battery is 100Ah, 200Ah or 314Ah. The maximum continuous current, peak current, cable length and installation conditions must be considered.
